Royal Canin Cat Food Review

Company Information

Jean Cathary, a veterinary surgeon, had started his veterinary practice in a village located in the Gard area of the south of France called Aimargues in the 1960s. He was so bothered by the number of cases he received from pets with different coats and skin diseases that he started doing his own experiments with foods he had at home to provide a nutritional solution for the pets. He experimented with different homemade recipes that he baked in an oven located in his garage. Jean realized after some time that his cereal-based recipes provided a constant source of cure for a myriad of skin and coat diseases the animals suffered from. He, therefore, decided to focus entirely on his new discovery and treatment as he completely ended his vet practice and registered his new brand, the “Royal Canin” to join the booming pet food industry. The new brand went on to import an extruder from the United States of America. Thus, Royal Canin became one of the pioneering makers of pet food in Europe as the company went on to manufacture different types of pet food. Royal Canin became the first company to manufacture dry pet food using an extruder in Europe. In 1972, the company was sold to the Guyomarc’h Group as its brands of pet food swept through Europe. Various branches of the company were opened in countries across Europe. Some of the countries include Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Sweden. In 2001, the company was sold to Mars Incorporated. Currently, Royal Canin has taken on a global market with factories and facilities across the globe. However, its main office remains in Aimargues in France.
