My dog thinks Solid Gold Beef Bone Broth with Turmeric Dog Food Topper is pretty good. I give him about two tablespoons a day. The bag should last about 8 days, which they recommend using before it goes bad. I don’t know how effective it is, but hope that he’s getting more vitamins. I think it would be great to give him when he’s not feeling well to make sure he’s getting his nutrients. I received this product as part of a free sample program.

Well my dog is VERY picky with his food. Refuses dry kibble, will look back for something else if given wet dog food, and will get bored easily with homemade dog food. I mixed the dry kibble with wet dog food and some of this prepared gravy. He seemed old with it. Besides trying to get him to eat his dog food he is suffering from seasonal allergies. Read that omega 3 is a good supplement to help with allergies so I hope this helps since is it contains fish oil. I also started making him some treat-cicles. I freeze some of the broth in an ice tray. He really seems to live them as treats. So if adding it to his food fails it can be a healthy snack. Great for when summer comes around too.

My dog loves this stuff. We add it to dry kibble and add water and it almost makes a gravy – and our dog cannot get enough of it. We were having issues with him eating his new food (he needed to lose a few lb’s and he is still not happy about it), but this does the trick. I would definitely recommend this for people who want to sneak in some extra nutrients for their pup! Super easy to do + it supports a good cause.

I crush it and mix it with her hard food and a tablespoon of this gravy and she eats it up. I was using pumpkin prior to this, and was worried that she would have digestive issues since she has a sensitive stomach, but she has no issues digesting this and is actually excited to eat her food at mealtimes now.

The Best Dog Bone Broths: Buying Guide & FAQs

What Is Bone Broth?

Bone broth, or stock as it’s also called, is a liquid that is made from boiling animal bones with or without vegetables. In cooking, we use stock like this for soups, sauces, gravy, and even drink it by itself.

The broth has been around for thousands of years. It’s not a new concept, though we have made it significantly easier to make. Today, you can make broth by simply adding a stock cube to boiling hot water. There are more traditional ways to make broth, but stock cubes are so much faster.

The downside of stock cubes is that they aren’t really suitable for dogs. Stock cubes tend to be fairly high in sodium, which isn’t something you want a lot of in your dog’s diet.

Is Bone Broth Good For Dogs?

Bone broths are definitely good for dogs. Whether they’re packed with beef or chicken protein, this soup made from cooked bones and vegetables is a great addition to your dog’s diet. Not only is it tasty, but it can also add more flavor to your pup’s meal while assisting their body’s various functions.

There are plenty of nutritional benefits that your dog will gain when you hand them a bowl of beef or chicken bone broth to eat. Broth for dogs is often human-grade because there shouldn’t be anything in the ingredients that humans can’t eat as well.

We highly recommend getting creative and trying out your own homemade bone broth for dogs. You’d be surprised at how simple bone broths are to make, even if they take some time to cook.

What to Look Out For in a Bone Broth for Dogs

  • Human-grade ingredients
  • Natural ingredients
  • Gluten-free
  • Few ingredients
  • No fillers or additives
  • Long storage, even when open

Potential Benefits Of Bone Broth

Naturally-Occurring Collagen

Collagen is the cushion that sits that the end of bones, around the ligaments, and the around tendons. When bones are strewed to make bone broth, collagen becomes a part of the broth. This is excellent because collagen can promote healthy skin, hair, teeth, and nails.

Promotes Joint Health

As well as the collagen in bone broth, there’s also glucosamine and chondroitin. Both of these components are always found in dog joint supplements because they’re known to help keep dogs’ joints more supple and help them get stronger.

Benefits Your Dog’s Gut Health

The nutrients in bone broth can make the condition “leaky gut” less likely. Leaky gut occurs when the barrier of the intestines is damaged in some way, allowing harmful substances to pass through into the rest of the body. The gelatin in bone broth can reverse this damage or prevent it altogether.

Can Detox Your Dog’s Liver

The broth made from animal bones will contain high levels of glycine, which helps the liver filter toxins and supports daily liver functions.

An Instant and Nutritious Treat for Dogs

With all of the benefits from the nutrients and substances found in bones broths, it’s no wonder that this treat is so nutritious. It’s instant, too, which is great for busy dog owners who are on the run and need to serve something quick.

Unlikely to Cause an Upset Stomach

The broth is an age-old solution to illnesses and minimized appetites. We give it to people who are sick, recovering, cold, tired, and to those who can’t eat rich food. It’s very unlikely that your dog will be sick from broth; unless they’re allergic to any ingredients in the product you give them.

Great for Dogs That Can’t Chew

The broth is liquid but full of goodness. You can give broth to young dogs, old dogs, sick dogs, or dogs who are recovering from an operation. It’s perfect for dogs who can’t chew well or can’t chew at all.

Chicken bone broth in a glass jar, with fresh vegetables in the background.

How to Store Bone Broth for Dogs

Depending on the product, you may need to store your bone broth in the pantry or in your refrigerator. Most dog bone broth products should be stored in a cool, dry place until they are opened, at which point they need to be transferred to the fridge. You should check the packaging to find out how long the product can be open.

Do not exceed the use-by date on any type of bone broth, whether it’s human-grade bone broth or not. Pet parents should always throw put any dog food that is out of date – either because it’s passed its use-by date or because it has exceeded the number of days it can remain open in the refrigerator.

FAQs:

Thankfully, dog bone broth products will include a feeding guide for dog owners to follow. Bone broth may have tasty and nutritious ingredients, but many are high in sodium and have high levels of supplements for creating better joint flexibility, which you don’t want your pup to overdose on.

You’ll need to read the ingredients to be sure, but as long as there isn’t anything in there that disturbs the natural ingredients or a high level of salt, your dog is welcome to eat the same store-bought bone broth that you would eat.

Giving your dog bone broth by itself is fine, but too much bone broth can cause an overbalance of amino acids and other nutrients. Instead, try mixing in the bone broth with your dog’s wet food or kibble to switch up the flavor from their boring regular food.

Not anymore, no. Today’s beef broth is made using ingredients that imitate the flavor of beef – unless you’re specifically buying beef bone broth from the shelves of your local stores. Bone broth is made with the actual bones of the animal, which have been simmered in a stock pot with vegetables and water for a long period of time.

If you’re after the best bone broth benefits, feeding these kinds of broths to your senior dog is exactly where you’re going to get them. Bone broth promotes healing in doggy joints, which is where an elderly dog needs the most assistance as they age.
